The Scripture
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! (Ecc 4:9-10)
Why must we be involved in the lives of others?
How many times have you heard the statement “My faith is a personal choice and none of your business.”? If you have not heard it said exactly that way it probably has been some variation of that statement. Yes, their faith is a personal choice but it is also something that we as believers must be very concerned about. We are involved in the lives of others because we care about the souls of people!
The Theological Solution
We must pursue other people the way Christ pursued us in our sins. The souls of our families, friends, and co-workers have been put in our lives so we can share with them the hope we have in Christ. Therefore, our mindset must change (Rom 12:2) to be more like Christ (Php 2:1-5). Believers must realize that people in our lives who die without Christ will spend an eternity in hell. We have the answer to their sickness. We must care about souls the same way Jesus does!
The Application
“Nothing can be more cruel than the tenderness that cosigns another to his sin. Nothing can be more compassionate than the severe rebuke that calls a brother back from the path of sin.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together(New York: Harper & Row, 1954), 107.
We are on this Earth for a small amount of time. As we look around us it is obvious how many people are hurting and need hope. Since Christ has changed us we must tell others about our story. The reality of the changed life must dramatically embolden us. John the Apostle stated that he could not help but discuss and tell others about what he has seen and heard.
Are you going to make the souls around you your business? Someone had to tell you about your faith. I hope that you are encouraged to share your faith story with others. Someone you know needs to hear how God can work in the lives of people. Moreover, it is not about you but what Christ has done in you! We must see others through the eyes of Christ. Take the eternity of souls seriously and passionately.
