God’s Timing is So Much Better

Today’s Reading Genesis 40-42

Focal Scripture: Genesis 41:46 “Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph left Pharaoh’s presence and traveled through the land of Egypt.”

Waiting is difficult. Waiting in difficult circumstances is almost unbearable. Especially when you know that God has a plan for your life. Joseph has done everything right. When he was sold into slavery he worked hard in Potiphar’s house. He chose not to sleep with his master’s wife. She lied on him and he was thrown in prison. While in prison he interprets dreams for the cupbearer and the baker. Both of those interpretations happen, just as he said they would. All he asks in return is not to be forgotten.

Two years pass and Joseph is sitting in prison. I would have to imagine that at some point doubt crept in and tormented Joseph. He is doing everything right and everything seems to be falling apart. He is betrayed by family, lied about and imprisoned and then forgotten.

However, these things had to happen so Joseph could be right where God wanted him, prepared to save his people and demonstrate that God’s sovereignty is able to be trusted. Everything happened in God’s timing.

You may be reading this and asking yourself “What about me?”, “When will my timing happen.” I do not have the answer to that specific question but I can promise you it will happen right when it needs to in your life. I know it can be difficult to have a desire in your heart that has not happened yet in your life. Especially, when you are being faithful where you are and you are being betrayed and isolated.

Know that what you are going through is to prepare you for your next steps. God does not waste anything in our lives. Scars tell stories. When God’s timing is ready for us to see the next step we will know that we are also ready. God is removing the impurities from us that will keep us from serving him wholeheartedly. Be steadfast in God’s love and remember “I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
