Today’s Reading Genesis 25-27
Focal Scripture: Genesis 26:25 “So he built and altar there, called on the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there. Isaac’s servants also dug a well there.”
Having a place to call home matters. Sometimes our lives and our journeys can take us places we didn’t expect. Those places can often be lonely, especially when you are following God’s will for your life. In this passage today we see that Isaac was trying to find a place to settle. God has blessed him, his possessions are growing. He needs more space and as he tries to find the right space for him he keeps running into obstacles.
However, eventually we see that God allows him to settle. The Bible tells us that Isaac built and altar, called on God, set up home and dug a well. Isaac was planning to stay for the long haul. He was ready to set up roots and have a place to call home.
Trying to find a place that is home and you are accepted can be a difficult process. Many times when you do all the right things you can still feel out of place. My encouragement to you today for those who are experiencing this is to put down roots wherever you are. Even in the midst of opposition, turmoil, doubt, loneliness, gladness or whatever you are experiencing. Put down roots. Allow your roots to grow deep where you are currently located. This can be your job, school, home, or even your church.
When a decision is made to be committed it changes how you view the people around you and your circumstances. If you have one foot in and another looking to run, your mind is split. Your heart is divided and your work for God will be more difficult.
Put down roots and grow. Soak up everything you can from where you are planted. Some of it will be good. Some of it will be bad. However, all of it will help you grow into the person you are called to be for the LORD.
