Today’s Reading Judges 1-2
Focal Scripture: Judges 2:19 “Whenever the judge died, the Israelites would act even more corruptly than their ancestors, following other gods to serve them and bow in worship to them. They did not turn from their evil practices or their obstinate ways.”
Nothing is more frustrating than when people repeat mistakes they were clearly warned about. This is very true for the nation of Israel. They were reminded how the previous generation lived and got banned from the promised land.
They were then taught how to avoid these problems and live a holy life. However, the Israelites continually make decisions that show contempt for God and his standard. Here we see that this new generation acted even more corrupt than those who came before them. That is a hard thought to comprehend.
It is a pointed out here that they would not turn away from evil. They would not change because of their decision making. They were choosing sin over God. That decision would create problems for generations to come.
The application for believers today is to take sin very seriously. To teach your children what sin will cause in their own lives and in the lives of those around them. Sin corrupts and will destroy. We must turn from our evil ways.
I challenge you today to examine your hearts and find anything that is not holy. Train your children and train them in the Lord.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Judges 3-5
