Remain Faithful to the Lord

Today’s Reading 2 Kings 18-19

Focal Scripture: 2 Kings 18:5-7 “Hezekiah relied on the Lord God of Israel; not one of the kings of Judah was like him, either before him or after him. He remained faithful to the Lord and did not turn from following him but kept the commands the Lord had commanded Moses. The Lord was with him, and wherever he went he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.”

Finally, a king who does what is right in the eyes of the Lord. So many leaders of Israel behaved and lead in ways that were contrary to the commands of the Lord. They were not faithful to the promises. They did what was right in their own eyes. They did not worship.

However, Hezekiah did what was right. So much so that nobody was like him before or after. He did not waiver and chose to follow the Lord. He rebelled against evil leaders. He was a man who knew that dependence on the Lord was necessary.

Believers today must have an attitude like Hezekiah. They must be a people who are faithful to the Lord in all that they do in life. To make a difference and be a good leader depends less on skill and more on dependence on God.

If a leader depends on natural skill it will only get them so far. Cracks will begin to show. They will be reactionary and not mindful. They will demand obedience and not earn it from their people. They will act one way in public and another in private.

Good leaders like Hezekiah were desperate to know and do the will of God. Their position did not give them authority their humbleness before the Lord did and it showed.

If you want to know if you are a good parent, boss, or leader ask yourself this question. Do you demand allegiance and obedience to you? Or do you point people to God? Good leaders are God focused not self focused.

After all we have seen plenty of examples from scripture showing the difference.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Kings 20-22
