Today’s Reading 2 Kings 6-8
Focal Scripture: 2 Kings 6:6 “Then the man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, the man of God cut a piece of wood, threw it there, and made the iron float.”
This phrase begins to show up in 2 Kings. Elisha is called the man of God. No doubt Elisha is living a lifestyle that has earned this title. He is performing miracles, he is giving sound advice, and he is intimately in love with God.
Continually he is called the man of God. This means that the nation and the people saw him and who he represented. Their first thought wasn’t prophet but man of God. His reputation was amazing amongst the people.
This should hit home to all of us. We must ask ourselves the question how do others view us? Sometimes we will have haters that will despise every decision we make. They will try to tear us down and come up with their own agenda.
However, the people who know us well and the majority of people we connect with should be able to tell others about our relationship with God. We should be known as holy. We should be kind and merciful. We should treat others with respect.
This also means we should examine how we treat others. If we are mean spirited, rude, speak unkindly, agenda driven or jealous it will ruin our reputation. The only way to avoid that is to understand that God must increase in our lives and we must decrease. It’s never about us in any aspect of our lives.
This attitude will reap a positive reputation. It will look different than the world but we are supposed to be different anyway.
