How Would God Describe You To Others?

Today’s Reading Job 1-4

Focal Scripture: Job 1:8 “Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? No one else on Earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and turns away from evil.”

We learn much from the book of Job. For instance that Satan travels to heaven. We also learn that Satan is in complete subjection to God. We learn that Satan tries to entice problems everywhere he goes. He wants the destruction of upright people.

However, we also learn that God knows his people down to the core. We also learn that God will allow circumstances in the lives of believers because he knows the end and the testimony it can bring. That is where the focal scripture rests today. Theologically this is very important for believers. God did not do the evil that befell Job but it was his idea for Satan to consider Job.

Why would God bring Job up to Satan anyway. Because God knew the character of Job. Look at the words God uses to describe Job. He is a servant. Nobody on Earth is like him. A man of perfect integrity. He fears God and turns away from evil. God was describing a man but a man that had a great testimony. God knew that no matter what Job would serve and worship. This story should give us much hope.

The implications for this in our lives should be Earth shattering. God knows us better than anyone. If God were to describe us to Satan how would that conversation sound. What adjectives would be used to describe our faith and our character? This should be a major challenge to us as believers. It should also encourage us that if Job could suffer and still keep his integrity than we can also.

Our testimonies matter. God and people see what type of person we really are in our hearts. Don’t try to be one person in public and another in private. You may fool others but God won’t be fooled. I pray that you and me both will be able to have the words spoken about Job applied to us. That can only happen if we are steadfast and committed to the Lord.

It can happen, if you fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Job 5-7
