Leadership Is Not An Island

Today’s Reading 1 Chronicles 25-27

Focal Scripture: 1 Chronicles 26:32 “There were among Jerijah’s relatives 2,700 capable men who were family heads. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh as overseers in every matter relating to God and the king.”

King David knew what all good leaders knew, he couldn’t lead by himself. Here we see that David gave authority and decision making to a group of men. They decided matters when it came to the King and to God.

David in his wisdom knew that he could not make every decision or even know about every situation. He had bigger problems and plans to address. So he gave away authority and decision making to a group of men. David had to let go to help the nation grow. He knew the nation would be limited if he was the only one making decisions.

This is a massive learning opportunity for believers and those who lead. When a person demands to be involved in everything than that will lead to stalled growth and problems. Having every decision monitored or processed through one person will slow down decision making and also stop necessary action from taking place.

We can see this in our personal lives. If our kids have to run every decision they make by us they will never grow. They will never know how to lead. It will also cause resentment. Trusting others to make decisions is the height of leadership. It shows humility that one person can’t be an expert in everything.

I encourage you today to examine how you lead your family, business, or even church. Are you the only one who makes decisions? Do you have to know everything that is going on? If so you will never get done the things you must have done.

Learn from David and let leadership thrive. After all one day we won’t be around to lead. Trust the process.

Tomorrow I Plan on reading 1 Chronicles 28-29 & 2 Chronicles 1
