Today’s Reading Nehemiah 1-3
Focal Scripture: Nehemiah 2:20 “I gave them this reply, “The God of the heavens is the one who will grant us success. We, his servants, will start building, but you have no share, right, or historic claim in Jerusalem.”
When you’re doing something for God people will often try to deter you. The beginning part of Nehemiah shows his concern for his people but also his boldness to accomplish a task. When the king and his wife notice that Nehemiah is sad they come up with a solution. They allow him to go and rebuild.
However, as Nehemiah is going to rebuild people want to stop him and ridicule him. When you’re not happy with the status quo people who are willing to do anything to stop you from following God. Even when they do Nehemiah responds that God will grant them success in their mission. That shows a reliance on the one he serves.
First, it is important to note that not every mission or goal we want to achieve will be successful. Sometimes failure is a great teacher and suffering is a ministry that is often overlooked. When success does happen though God should get the glory especially when it has to do with his people and his place of worship.
When we are given tasks to complete we need to make sure our hearts our right. It is very easy to turn and take all the credit. But as believers we know that success comes from the Lord. To many times we as humans try to take more credit than we need for our success.
I encourage you today to depend on God and give him the glory in your accomplishments. After all we should always be pointing people to God anyway.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Nehemiah 4-6
