Today’s Reading, Proverbs 13-15
Focal Scripture: Proverbs 15:32 “Anyone who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever listens to correction acquires good sense.”
Nobody looks forward to being held accountable and being disciplined. However, it is necessary for personal and spiritual growth. When a person is not able to examine themselves and learn from mistakes they show no maturity. Worse yet are those who need to correct but refuse to do so.
As a believer it is imperative that we have people in our lives who will speak truth to us and make sure we are held accountable. They must be able and willing to correct, rebuke, and even discipline when necessary. Why does this matter? Because as humans we will make mistakes. We will become prideful. We will struggle with sins.
Having people in our lives who will hold us accountable for our decisions is God honoring, wise, and mature. This accountability is for personal choices, work related, and even spiritual decisions. Every aspect of our lives should be self examined by scripture and examined by those who know us well.
Having accountability makes sure that we are doing what needs to be done. It makes sure that we stay humble. It make sure that bad leaders get corrected before it is to late. The reason many marriages fail is because nobody walking alongside the husband and wife. The reason churches fail happens because leaders don’t hold others accountable for their actions and behavior.
I challenge to today to make sure you have two to three people who will hold you accountable. Have people that will tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear. I can tell you from personal experience it makes a big difference. This accountability has gotten me out of bad situations. It has also pushed me to be the follower God has called me to be in my daily life.
