The Lord Who Knows

Today’s Reading, Psalms 133-139

Focal Scripture: Psalms 139:1-4

“Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; you understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; you are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, Lord.”

We all have people who know us well. It could be a family member. It could be a friend. No matter who it is they know you better than just about anyone. The only person who knows you more is the Lord himself.

That is a humbling thought. God knows everything about us and in depth. The psalmist says that the Lord knows she he stands, when he sits, and even his thoughts from far away. The Lord knows about how we travel and even how we rest. God even knows what we are going to speak before it’s on our tongue.

The implications of this truth should move us to reverence and worship. We can’t hide from God. He knows everything about us, from our thoughts to our actions and even what we want hidden. Nothing is beyond his knowledge.

As believers we should be happy about this truth. This means that God knows all the details about who we are and what we think. Even knowing those details, he still loves us and provides salvation for us. God is gracious and God searches our hearts.

Let us surrender to the God who knows. Let us worship the God who sees. Let us pray earnestly to the God who loves.

Oh what a savior!

Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 140-145
