What Would You Exchange The Glory of God For?

Today’s Reading, Psalms 106-107

Focal Scripture: Psalms 106:20-22 “They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating ox. They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Ham, awe-inspiring acts at the Red Sea.”

Psalms 106 can be summarized as the failures of the Jewish people. This chapter walks through how the nation kept turning its back on God and his commands. They demonstrated being unfaithful and worshipped other gods. Selfishness rules the day.

We see here that they exchanged the glory of God for a created animal, one that ate grass. Then after they exchanged God for this animal they forgot everything he did for them. When you lose focus on who God is you will eventually forget what he has done in your life.

It does not take long to lose your focus when you are following God. Your focus can be lost by something serious or it can be lost by looking at a grass eating ox. This will then lead to leaving behind what you know to be true. Things you have personally witnessed and changed your life. All because you exchanged the glory of God for something created.

Believers must be weary of falling into this same trap. We see something or experience something that gets our attention off of God, then we forget how he changed our life. Remembering what God has done for us is important because it keeps our minds focused on Gods great works. It keeps his glory out front. It keeps us from exchanging his glory for what we want.

I challenge you today to ask yourself if anything is competing for your attention? If so, what are you willing to exchange the glory of God for? If you have something give it to God and submit to him. If you don’t have anything you would exchange make sure you keep your heart focused on the one that matters.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 108-114
