The Plans of the Lord

Today’s Reading, Isaiah 45-48

Focal Scripture: Isaiah 46:10 “I declare the end from the beginning, and from long ago what is not yet done, saying: my plan will take place, and I will do all my will.”

We all want to know what the future holds. If we knew what was to happen we would make certain decisions differently. We would nudge our children down different paths. We would not move our families to take a certain job. Knowing what will come in the future would be a big benefit.

I these verses we are told that the Lord knows the future. Not only does he know the future he plans the future. This truth often scares many people. They argue about free will and choice. They say if God knows the future he is a dictator. Nothing further can be true. If God is surprised by what is to come then he really isn’t God. Our God is all knowing and nothing surprises him. He is sovereign and reigns above all!

What can we take away from this truth? First, nothing surprises the Lord. He knows what is going to happen in the world and I our lives. This means we can trust the process. We can trust his wisdom. Even when things don’t go the way we planned. Next, we know that our situations are precisely allowed by our Lord. As believers we know that the difficult times and situations will grow us to be more mature.

I challenge you today to not fear God’s omniscience. His ability to know everything. Embrace his sovereignty. These two doctrines are actually very freeing. It lets us know that we are not the ones in control. We are called to follow the one that is in control.

The plans of the Lord are perfect and never fail.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Isaiah 49-53
