Today’s Reading, Lamentations 3-5
Focal Scripture: Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!”
Love and mercy are two very powerful words. They are even more extraordinary when they are put into practice. Knowing your loved gives a senses of confidence you can’t shake. Having mercy gives you the knowledge that you’re supported even when you fail. These two together build a house of faithfulness.
In the verses today this anonymous writer is explaining his journey through judgement in Israel. He has experienced terrible acts and witnessed Gods wrath. However, he focuses on the positive. He knows that him being alive is God’s mercy poured out onto him. He knows that the Lord is faithful even when things seem difficult. Sometimes in the midst of trials and judgement we miss God’s mercy. We miss that they are new everyday.
Many of the writings to this point have focused on judgement and wrath. We as believers must always remember that God is both/and not either/or when it comes to his character. God is not just wrath. He is not just love. He is the combination of perfect divine wrath and perfect love and mercy. God looks out for us and gives us opportunities. He shows us mercy.
What does that mean for us today? It means we need to view God biblically. it means we must see him for who he is as a God full or justice and love. Whatever you are facing today be encouraged that God will provide you with love and mercy. It may not look the way you think but it is there. God wants the best for us we just happen to miss it when we are suffering.
Remember his mercies are new everyday.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Ezekiel 1-4
