Today’s Reading, Jeremiah 46-48
Focal Scripture: Jeremiah 46:27 “But you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid, and do not be discouraged, Israel, for without fail I will save you from far away, and your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return and have calm and quiet with no one to frighten him.”
Most people look forward to vacation. They are looking for the calm and quiet. Life can get busy and hectic. Life can be a rollercoaster. In the midst of chaos it is nice to know that you will eventually have a break. That calm and quiet will rescue you from whatever problems you have been having.
This is where the reading today takes us. Jeremiah is giving more bad news. More destruction and enemies taking over. More pain and suffering. Even other tribes and counties facing judgement. Everything seems to be falling apart with no hope. However, in the midst of the turmoil God steps in and remind Israel they have hope. That calm and quiet are promised.
This is a promise we need to hold onto in our lives. The Bible promises difficult times for believers. It guarantees that life will be a struggle at times. However, it also promises us our future hope. It promises us that his spirit will never leave us. We have an assurance just like the Israelites that God has a plan and is working it out for his glory. The calm and quiet will come.
Let me challenge you today to trust the Lord. I am not sure what difficulty you are facing but know that God has you and can give you what you need. If you can look forward to vacation have more hope that God can comfort you more than any mountain or beach. God is calm and comfort. He brings order and peace in chaos.
Focus your heart on the promises of the written word and know that in the end it all works out. The Lord’s calm and quiet is better than anything the world has to offer.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Jeremiah 49-50
