Led Into Storms

Today’s Reading, Mark 5-6

Focal Scripture: Mark 4:35 “On that day, when evening had come, he told them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the sea.”

Around where I live we have experienced numerous storms lately. Damage is rampant and people have been suffering. These storms have been powerful and even surprised the experts in how they brought destruction in certain areas. These storms have a negative side that is life shattering. They also have a positive side. We get to see people help others. We get to see the church be the church and meet needs that might often get overlooked. Being in storms do not always have to be negative even when they have big consequences.

In today’s reading we see that Jesus led the disciples to be in a storm. As they were traveling a bad storm started and the disciples were scared. Jesus, however, was below deck fast asleep. When the disciples cried out for help Jesus stopped the weather. He made it calm and brought everything back to peace. He then asks the disciples why they had fear. He also asked where is their faith. He wanted them to see that if he led them into situation he would protect them in that situation.

This is where the application is for you today. You can be following God and still be led into a storm. A storm so big and powerful you think life is over. In the midst of that storm have faith that God is with you. In our Americanized version of Christianity we believe everything should be perfect in our lives. Storms however reveal the faith we have in our captain.

I am not sure where you are today or what storm you may be in but trust Jesus. Know that he loves you and wants to grow your faith. If you will trust the one who led you into the storm you will see the beauty of what you’re experiencing. That beauty is a deep dependence and trust in the one who asks you to follow him.

Storms have beauty you just have to trust the one who created them to begin with.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Mark 6-7
