Today’s Reading, Luke 17-18
Focal Scripture: Luke 18:8 “I tell you that he will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Persistence makes a difference. You can want to do something or even want to know an answer but how persistent are you to find that answer out? I have witnessed young people try things once or twice than give up. I have also witnessed young people continue until they got the answer they were seeking. These same young people that were persistent in their desires often became persistent believers.
In the text today Jesus is talking about being persistent in prayer. A woman approached a judge to seek justice from an adversary. The judge was lost and didn’t fear God. However, he came to the conclusion that if he didn’t help the woman she would never stop. Jesus then goes on to explain that if the unjust judge is that way how much more God will grant justice from a persistent person.
The takeaway is that persistence in prayer matters. It matters more than anybody’s can understand. It also ok to pray that God will take care of people who have caused you harm. People who have brought pain. This may seem strange but it is better for God to exact revenge than for us to do it ourselves.
God wants people who are persistent in prayer. How much are we willing to come before him and bring him our requests. Bring him our pain and bring him our desires. Sometimes our prayers are for justice. Sometimes they are for wisdom. Sometimes they are for peace.
No matter what the prayer is for do we seek Gods face until we get an answer? Or do we pray once and give up. Let it be said of us that we are wearing out the doorbell of heaven. Let’s put a crease in the door we are knocking on.
Let’s be known as persistent people of prayer.
