Not All Worship the Same God

Today’s Reading, Deuteronomy 8-10

Focal Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:19 “If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods to serve them and bow in worship to them, I testify against you today that you will certainly perish.”

Being clear is important in conversations. people need to know what you mean and how you meant it to make sure both parties are on the same page. Unfortunately, when people communicate they leave conversations open for interpretation. This is when miscommunication happens and frustrations abound. I have been around people who think they communicate clearly but leave the conversation vague. Every time this happens drama is at the forefront of the relationship.

In today’s reading we see clear communication take place. God is abundantly straightforward with the Israelites and lets them know the consequences for worshipping and bowing down to other gods. They will perish and be undone. God is the only one worthy of worship. However, some people think that they can worship any god and still be ok. This was true in this context and that is also true today.

The question I have for you today is this; Do you worship the God of the Bible or a god that you have created? In our culture today people believe that doing good is the same thing as worshiping God. They believe that church attendance and activity are equivalent to knowing God on a personal level. Worship is no longer real it is a act of convenience.

My challenge for you today is to ask the hard questions about yourself and your worship.

  1. Is the God you worship biblical?
  2. Are you submitting yourself to him daily?
  3. Does anything else have your affection more than Jesus?

The answers to these questions will reveal to you if you bow down to a false god. I encourage you today to learn about the God of the Bible. To submit yourself to God who is worthy of all honor and praise. We must understand that even though some people make claims to worship the biblical Jesus they actually don’t. We can help reveal this truth to them by declaring the Bible clearly and accurately. Clear communication makes all the difference.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Deuteronomy 11-13
