A Great King Above All Gods

Today’s Reading, Psalms 90-95

Focal Scripture: Psalms 95:3-4 “For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. The depths of the earth are in his hand, and the mountain peaks are his.”

Having perspective matters when it comes to life and decisions. It definitely is true when thinking about the greatness of God. I had the privilege recently to ascend a very high peak. I was over 6,000 feet above sea level. I got to see views I have never seen in person before and it was glorious. I got to look at God’s creative handiwork. I got to see what he does and how he forms the world to his desire and his liking. It reminded me that there is no God like him at all. Nothing compares to him even other man made gods.

In today’s reading we see the Psalmist declare that the Lord is a great God. He is even King among other gods. That statement needs to get our attention. We know that other people worship a variety of beings and created things. However, our God is King above them all. We know these other gods are not actually real but the point is that even these created gods have to submit to the creator himself. Our God makes the mountains and the valleys. He is the foundation of all that we have in our lives and world.

So the challenge I have for you today is to ask yourself how often do you think about the greatness of God. I would argue that many of us do not spend much time on that subject. Our thoughts are consumed by our wants and our needs. Our prayers are focused on things getting done for us or our situations. Our conversations center around our current circumstances. When this happens we become focused on our problems and plight.

The answer to this is to focus on the wonderful works of God. When we begin to realize how small we are and how great our God is it changes everything. We will begin to worship God as the creator and maker of everything. We will view him as the all powerful deity that he is over the galaxies. When we comprehend that no created being or god compares to him it changes our worship.

I hope and pray today that you get a view of God that transforms your thinking. I hope you get to spend sometime in worship with the God of the universe who changed everything. Our minds, hearts, and souls are made for such true and genuine worship. It’s time to participate in it daily.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 96-102
