Today’s Reading, Nahum 1-3
Focal Scripture: Nahum 1:3 “The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will never leave the guilty unpunished. His path is in the whirlwind and storm, and clouds are the dust beneath his feet.”
I think that we do not talk about the patience of God enough in our circles. The patience of God is one of his attributes that is surreal when you think about it in detail. Who else will we encounter that would give us infinite opportunities to get right regardless of how we treat them or what we say about them. Especially, when we choose to do wrong and then play the victim when things turn sideways.
In today’s reading we see that the Lord is slow to anger even though he is great in power. This patience he offers from his divine judgement affords everyone the opportunity to respond to the gospel. With the city of Nineveh, God marked them for destruction. However, God sent them a prophet. They then had to choose how to respond to the word of the Lord.
This truth also applies to us as people who are alive today. God is extremely patient with our sin and gives us many opportunities to respond to Jesus. His heart is that nobody be punished. God wants everyone to choose to believe in him and reap the rewards of a life that is better than anything that the world has to offer.
I think about so many people that I run into that has no hope. They believe in an ideology that makes them the center of their universe. I can tell you right now I would never want to be in charge of the cosmos. My wicked heart would choose to do look out for my own interests. Gods heart is patient and kind and desires that everyone experience the forgiveness of his freedom.
If you are here today reading or listening to this devotion I ask you to run to God. He is patient and kind. He will forgive you of all your wrong. He wants to give you eternal life and fix your broken heart. If you have pain that seems that it can’t be fixed know he is the only one that can fix it for you.
Run to the one who has great power and is slow to anger. He will change your life more than any person, ideology, or belief system. God is in the heart changing business. He desires to change yours and mine.
