Today’s Reading, Amos 6-9 & Obadiah 1
Focal Scripture: Amos 8:11 “Look, the days are coming — this is the declaration of the Lord God — when I will send a famine through the land: not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.”
If you pay attention to many pastors today you will get a variety of personalities. What you will also get is a variety of men who no longer preach the word of God. They preach their opinions or their own beliefs. These pastors are men who are in love with themselves and not the God of the Bible. When they preach they act as if the Bible is the furtherest thing from their hearts and minds.
In today’s focal verse we see that the Lord was going to send a famine through the land. However, this famine was not going to be because of a lack of food or water. Instead it was going to be a famine for hearing the word of the Lord. His words would be available but the people would not be able to find them or use them to sustain them spiritually.
I believe that we have reached that point in our country today. I want to point out that there are many pastors who are faithful every week. They preach the text and love the people. These men are people who understand that the word of the Lord is the most important gift they can give the people. Unfortunately, these men are becoming harder to find in our churches. Far too often men are using the pulpit to further an agenda instead of proclaiming God.
How do I know this? The people in our society are more biblically illiterate than ever. Even though they have access to more Bible teaching than all generations combined. We shouldn’t be surprised by this because this is the promise of the last days. However, we don’t have to settle for that truth.
I challenge everyone who is a believer to know the word of the Lord passionately. To declare its truth to everyone. To make it obvious that even though the ground might be dry you will still fight to make sure they know the scriptures. We need men of God who preach Jesus faithfully and passionately. We need men who will not contribute to a famine of scripture in the land.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading Jonah 1-4
