Do You Have A Godless Heart?

Today’s Reading, Job 35-37

Focal Scripture: Job 36:13 “Those who have a godless heart harbor anger; even when God binds them, they do not cry for help.”

Have you ever meet an angry person? I don’t mean when a person has moments of frustration or even a spurt of anger. I have been angry before and even showed out in ways that are not appropriate or biblical. I am talking about a person who is almost always angry. They are mad at everyone and everything. Their attitude is one that can change in an instant. They also hide their anger because they know just how problematic it is and if others find out the truth of their anger it would cause many problems.

I was around one person on a consistent basis that was excellent at hiding their anger. Most people thought that this person was funny, engaging, and even extremely personable. However, they never witnessed the true heart of this individual. They were always angry and consistently attacked anyone and everyone when given the opportunity. Why? In my opinion it is because they did not know the Lord. They were under constant conviction but never dealt with it biblically.

In today’s reading Jobs friend makes a good statement. He says that those who have a godless heart harbor anger. When things get difficult they double down and don’t ask for help. Even though Jobs friend was wrong on several of his claims, he got this claim 100% correct. Angry people can only be changed by God. The more they try to handle life themself, the more angry they become.

Angry people have a Godless heart. They do life on their own and get angry when things fall apart in their dealing and decisions. They become angry when people don’t do exactly what they demand, when they demand. These angry people have heard the truth, but to change they have to admit they are wrong. They rarely do that because being angry gives them a sense of security.

If you are an angry person you have to examine if you have a Godless heart. How do you know? What is your attitude toward people you disagree with on serious topics? How do you talk about others? Do you act different towards certain people? Are you the life of the party around others but angry at home in private?

Anger is not a fruit of the spirit, it is a revealer of the heart. Angry people must surrender to the Lord because he can break that heart of stone. Surrender today and watch how the Lord will change you from the inside out.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Job 38-39
