A Promised Inheritance

Today’s Reading, Joshua 19-21

Focal Scripture: Joshua 21:45 “None of the good promises the Lord had made to the house of Israel failed. Everything was fulfilled.”

Getting what your promised is always a good feeling. However, receiving an inheritance is an even better experience. Why? Because an inheritance is a promised fulfilled, usually from a family member or a very close friend or relative. This inheritance can come in many ways. I have personally received monetary inheritances and physical inheritances. These inheritances are important not because of what was given but the person who gave it to me.

In today’s reading we catch up with the nation of Israel and we see all of the promises God has made are being fulfilled. The tribes are getting their land and the people are seeing how God always keeps his promises. This verse is even more specific than we can grasp with our minds. It clearly says none of Gods promises failed and everything was fulfilled. God does exactly what he says he will do.

As believers we are promised an inheritance from the Lord. We know that one day Jesus will bring all believers physically to him in heaven. If you happen to die before his return, your body will be resurrected. It will be made whole and you will enter your eternal rest. Your body will be reunited with the soul that has been in heaven. If you are alive as a believer when he returns, you will meet Jesus in the air and be with him for all eternity. You see, our inheritance is promised and secure. This promise is way better than a physical piece of property.

However, we also know that Jesus is making for us homes to live in after we gather to be with him for eternity. Our God takes care of his people. Our God fulfills his promises and never fails. Even though this world has its trials and tribulations and we may suffer horrible tragedies and experience pain. We are promised a reward that cant be taken away from us for all eternity.

The greatest inheritance we will receive from the Lord, is being in his presence. We need to take confidence that our hope does not rest on mere man. It rests on God and he always fulfills his word. Even when there seems to be no way or hope.

So if you are struggling today, take heart and know your future is secure. Your needs will be meet. Our inheritance is incorruptible, it will never tarnish, and it will never be taken away. Put your faith in the one who delivers on his word.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Joshua 22-24
