Be Amazed By The Lord

Today’s Reading, Habakkuk 1-3 & Zephaniah 1-3

Focal Scripture: Habakkuk 1:5 “Look at the nations and observe  — be utterly astounded! For I am doing something in your days that you will not believe when you hear about it.”

If you have ever witnessed an amazing event you know how it impacts every faculty of your being. One of the most amazing events I have ever witnessed is the birth of my son. Even though I can’t remember every detail what I do remember has been life changing. I got to witness a life that was formed by God in the womb take its first breath of air in a world where hope is needed. It still amazes me to this day how God crafted people to be able to create life in such a unique way.

In today’s reading Habakkuk is getting a response from his prayer to the Lord. He asked why the wicked seem to prosper and why God tolerates wrongdoing. The response God gave is astounding. He told him to watch and be amazed. That he was going to do something so amazing that he would not believe it even if he was told about it beforehand. God was making it clear that he works wonders. He does what nobody else can even think about doing.

This truth should shape us in profound ways as believers. In a world and society where it seems that everything is falling apart, we need to have confidence that God can still do something amazing. For instance, do we believe that true revival can take place in our nation and around the world? I believe most people will say yes but are they living like it can happen at any moment.

So how does this play out practically? If we believe that revival can still happen do we prepare our hearts and our churches for a mighty move of God? The evidence comes in how the church prays and empowers others to send forth the truth. A church who believes that revival can happen today not only prays for it to happen in their midst but begs God to use them as individuals and corporately.

I want to be a person that believes and sees God do things that only he can perform. I want to have a spirit and an attitude that expects the unexpected from God. I desire to see God move in my personal life and the life of the world in a way that history books record it for future generations.

Do you believe in the wonder working power of the Lord?

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Haggai 1-2
