Today’s Reading, Ezekiel 37-39
Focal Scripture: Ezekiel 37:3 “Then he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I replied, “Lord God, only you know.”
Seeing something miraculous is always something to behold. In my life there have been even a few instances when I knew that only the hand of God could be involved in that situation. When these things took place it was almost too much to bear. The weight of God’s glory and work was overwhelming.
Here in today’s reading Ezekiel was touched by the Lord and then given a vision. He was given a vision that consisted of a valley of bones. Scattered, battered, and serrated from one another. Death was everywhere and it looked like there was no hope. Then God steps in and asks a very powerful question, “can these bones live?” Ezekiel had a vision of God putting back together many people from bones to tendons and skin. Then the breath of life entering them and making them live again. This had to be overwhelming and very personal for Ezekiel. This vision was to symbolize how God was going to take all the death and destruction in Israel and turn it around for his good and his glory. God was to heal the broken for his namesake.
God does what nobody else can do. The majority of the time we have no idea what that will look like or how it will happen. All we can trust is that God will work so his name is glorified. The Lord of the universe is the only one who can intervene in our situations and make them whole. Just as he was the only one who could intervene in Israel’s trouble.
Be encouraged today! Know that we will all go through troubles and difficulties. We will experience trials and tribulations. We will become overwhelmed and defeated. However, God will intervene on our behalf. I am not saying that our lives will be perfect. What I am saying is that God will glorify himself through our difficulties. The nation of Israel was being restored for his glory not theirs. When we go through difficulties we are being restored for his glory not ours.
The restoration may not be dramatic or intense as we see here. He may work in subtle ways but no matter what he is always at work.
May the name of the Lord be forever glorified as he is the only one that can make bones come back to life again.
Tomorrow I plan on reading 40-42
