Disobeying The Word of the Lord

Today’s Reading, Jeremiah 42-45

Focal Scripture: Jeremiah 44:5 “But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their evil or stop burning incense to other gods.”
‭‭

The words of the Lord are important. We are given an opportunity to respond to what he says. Other times we make promises ourselves that we will do what he commands. Either way the word of the Lord should be a priority and should be followed through with.

In the reading today we witness several accounts where people make claims that they will do what the Lord commands. However, when they hear the commands they reject them. They reject them forcefully. They even turn more towards evil and give gifts to other gods. They turned away from the word of the Lord. Their own desires won.

The challenge for us is to follow what the Lord says. When he gives clear direction we need to follow. When we make a promise to obey his word we need to follow through. Gods direction is good and perfect. His word must be trusted and obeyed.

The challenge is why don’t we obey the Lord. Why do we read or hear his word and choose to disobey. The answer is we think we have it all figured out. We elevate our wants and desires above the word of the Lord. This must change because it ruins our testimony and it breaks our fellowship with God.

When we obey the results are up to God. When we go our own path we make ourselves greater than God. Be different than others around you. Obey the Lord.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Jeremiah 46-48
