Do You Inquire of The Lord

Today’s Reading 1 Chronicles 12-14

Focal Scripture: 1 Chronicles 13:3 “Then let’s bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of him in Saul’s days.”

In these readings we see that David is getting ready to be King. The people and God are exhausted over the bad leadership of Saul. One of the most obvious ways that Saul didn’t lead Gods is he never inquired of God.

Imagine being a leader of God’s chosen people and never seeking his input. No wonder Saul began to have the problems he did. He was trying to lead in his own wisdom and power. David on the other hand knew where his wisdom and power came from.

This is a sobering reminder. The Bible continually shows what a good leader looks like and what a bad leader looks like. The answer is easy to figure out. Bad leaders focus on themselves. Good leaders seek the Lord.

It is important to know that you can be leading and taking others nowhere. This happens often in our culture. An easy way to pick this out is by watching where Christian leaders get leadership advice from. Yes, secular leaders can have some insights but they don’t understand the nuances of how being a Christ follower changes everything.

If you are a believer the Bible, the Holy Spirit and Christian leaders will guide you to seek God first. Don’t be a leader who leads from your own desires. Be a leader that follows God and seeks his face. Inquire of the Lord about everything.

If you follow a leader that demands obedience to them, has to be the person in charge no matter what or has the final say on all matters be weary. Human leaders point others to Christ, empowers them to live for Christ, and commissions them to inquire of the Lord.

Biblical leaders make much of God and less of themselves. They seek the Lord.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 1 Chronicles 15-17
