False Prophets Judged

Today’s Reading, Micah 1-7

Focal Scripture: Micah 3:5 “This is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who proclaim peace when they have food to sink their teeth into but declare war against the one who puts nothing in their mouths.”

People who mislead others will be judged. This is especially true for people who lead others astray from God. These people are called false prophets. False prophets are not just people who speak against God but are people who lead others away from God by their actions, speech, and conduct. The heart of a false prophet is to glorify themselves over God. This can be easily noticed because the false prophet uses other people to gain an advantage over others by using words to manipulate the truth.

In today’s focal scripture we see that false prophets lead people astray. These prophets claim peace but in reality they desire war. To put this in perspective the prophets were manipulating people to get what they wanted. This manipulation was social, emotional, political and most importantly religiously.

What we must understand as believers is that false prophets are everywhere. They are located in churches, homes, businesses and even families. False prophets are all about themselves. False prophets don’t take ownership for the damage they cause. They have smooth words and often a loyal following. These people are gifted at sowing discord and controlling narratives. They are often well liked and go after anyone who questions them or doesn’t follow them wholeheartedly.

However, these people will be judged harshly by the Lord. They will have to give an account for every person that they have led astray. Every person who has had their faith damaged by their actions and their words will be vindicated. I can tell you many stories of people in leadership who behave this way. They might have their moment now but they will have to face God and be held accountable for their actions.

Be encouraged that if you have been victimized by a false prophet that God will deal with them appropriately. Also know that God will help you heal. He will bring you through the pain that these people have caused in your life. For the believer nothing bad will be wasted, even the actions of those who have done you harm.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Nahum 1-3
