Finding Strength in the Lord

Today’s Reading 1 Samuel 28-31

Focal Scripture: 1 Samuel 30:6 “David was in an extremely difficult position because the troops talked about stoning him, for they were all very bitter over the loss of their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.”

In the last chapters of first Samuel we are given lots of information. Saul consults a medium and asks to speak to Samuel. Otis confirmed that his kingship is over because of his disobedience. David and his men experience a great loss and have their wives and children kidnapped. Saul and his sons are killed.

Saul is then beheaded and strung up on a wall for all to see. The Israelites come get his body and his sons then bury them. The ending of this section seems like all hope is lost.

However, we see that even when David is down and frustrated, he hopes in the Lord. This is a pattern that David would implement the rest of his life when circumstances were difficult.

This pattern should be ours as well. We know that life will become difficult. We know that others will want to harm us. We know that it may seem like there is no hope. However, finding strength in God is what changes everything.

I challenge you today to lean on God in all your circumstances. Seek him above any other advice. The challenge with being a believer is that we often believe we have all the answers. When in reality we don’t. In difficult seasons trusting the Lord makes all the difference.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Samuel 1-3
