Following the Lord’s Instruction

Today’s Reading 2 Kings 9-11

Focal Scripture: 2 Kings 10:31 “Yet Jehu was not careful to follow the instruction of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart. He did not turn from the sins that Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.”

Jehu became an instrument of God. He exacted God’s will on several people and their punishment finally came to fruition. In the process of his adventures he became increasingly distant from God. He did not give God glory and tolerated sin.

This happens often today in the lives of believers. We do not take our time or are intentional to not follow the commands of the Lord. We are instructed by him from the word to run from certain sins. Have a heart that takes care of others and even to not gossip.

However, our hearts go into rebellion. They fight against the commands of the Lord. We think we do right but miss how his words should change us and lead us down a path of righteousness. Instead we do the opposite of his instructions. We become sinners.

One of the worst statements in the Bible is found here. He did not turn from known sin. We are all sinners. We all have struggles. The difference between someone following after Christ and following themselves, is how do they deal with sin.

Far too often we tolerate sin in our lives and even make excuses for it while that sin happens. I encourage you today to give up your sin. Have a heart that follows the Lord and listens to his commands.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Kings 12-14
