Today’s Reading, Psalms 115-118
Focal Scripture: Psalms 116:7-8 “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. For you, Lord, rescued me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.”
There are times in our life when our souls are not at rest. As believers we know where we will spend eternity. We know who holds our future. However, our present circumstances may overwhelm us and our souls are uneasy. When this happens our focus must be on God and not on our problems.
I know this is easier said than done, but for us to find rest, we must spend more time focusing on the one who can give a solution to our situation. Unfortunately, we often spend more time on how we are feeling and work ourselves up into a frenzy or a ball of stress.
Hear the words of the Psalmist. God rescued him from death. Then he rescued him from tears. Then rescued him from stumbling. God knows our need and will help us get through it, especially because he is helping us grow our faith.
Believer notice this truth. Problems will come. We will be overwhelmed. God doesn’t promise us no problems in our lives. One truth we as believers must learn is the ministry of suffering. We will all face this reality. Unfortunately, most of us do not handle it well.
Suffering will reveal what we believe. Suffering will reveal where our trust level is with God. Suffering will reveal where our hope is found. Suffering also offers a chance to witness.
Know that God will be with you while you struggle. He will walk beside you in your trial. He will rescue you at just the right moment. Let us be a people who suffer well and demonstrate our trust in God.
