Today’s Reading Numbers 3-4
Focal Scripture: Numbers 3:13-14 ” The Levites belong to me,because every firstborn belong to me. At the time I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated every firstborn in Israel to myself, both man and animal,They are mine: I am the Lord.”
Being consecrated for a task is a big deal. Here in this passage we see that God chose the Levites and the firstborn even while they were in Egypt. It is always amazing how God has a plan and that plan works to perfection. Even when the Egyptians were experiencing pain and death, God was providing a way for the Israelites to fulfill his commands.
Here God is giving directions to count the Levites and found out how many there are for the tasks they are assigned. Also God is being very specific to the jobs that each clan inside that tribe will be responsible for to serve the people and the tent of meeting. God knows what is needed and what people need to be chosen.
That bring today’s devotion to its climax. God’s sovereignty often does not get talked about very often. It can be a scary word and it is often misunderstood. God’s sovereignty means that God can make the ultimate decision about anything and everything. He answers to nobody. His choices are good and they are final. Here he is choosing the Levites to accomplish the task of worship. God knows that this group can accomplish his goal better than any other group.
For us today we need to rest in God’s sovereignty as well. This should give us peace that God always make the right decision even when we cannot understand what is happening or comprehend the reasons. We may have questions about what is taking place but trusting the creator is more important than how we feel.
I want to emphasize that it is ok to ask questions. It is ok to wonder why things happen, especially bad things. (That is an answer for another post) The point of God’s sovereignty is for us to trust God. To understand that he is good and his decisions are loving and full of grace. God makes perfect decisions. Even when we don’t understand.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Numbers 5-6
