“Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will know Gods will, his good pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom 12:2)
One of the biggest questions that believers ask is “What is God’s will for my life?” It often brings dread to young people choosing a college or career path. Choosing whom to marry can often seem impossible because you are looking for signs or confirmation on your decision. Maybe you want to change jobs and are looking for certain door to be open or shut so you can have an obvious answer for the plan for your life.
What if I told you that you may never be given a direct answer on those questions or many others you have? Many times I was one who was always waiting for signs. Often I was waiting for doors to be shut or open before a decision was made. I even said the famous Christian quote “I need to have a peace about this” before I committed to something monumental in my life.
However, many times in my life doors were shut and peace was non existent over something that I knew God wanted me to do. Does that mean the desire was wrong? Or perhaps I was letting my doubt make it a little more difficult to accomplish what God has placed in my heart. One time I had no peace on a decision, and no sign was waiting for me. Because of that though process I almost missed one of the greatest blessings in my life because of a feeling.
Our choices do matter. They do have ramifications and consequences. I am not saying that prayer and petition to God is not needed for wisdom. What I am saying is that we focus more on the decision than the God of the universe. Often when we seek God’s will we are seeking for us to be satisfied and validated, instead of us being satisfied in him. That is a big difference.
You want to know God’s will for your life? He wants you to be completely obedient to him and seek him first (Matt 6:33). Even when is it scary. We need to trust that if we are completely following Christ that our decisions will be guided by him. His will is for us to love him. Tell others about him and passionately pursue him.
So do you spend more time trying to figure out God’s will or following him? One is a focus on questions the other is a focus Jesus.
