Todays Reading Genesis 15-18
Focal Scripture: Genesis 18:2 “He looked up, and he saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tnet to meet them, bowed to the ground, and said, “My lord, if I have found favior with you, please do not go on past your servant.”
Abraham got a personal visit from God. His response is what you would expect. He ran to see. He bowed down. Then he tried to do his best to serve them because he did not want God to leave. Abraham was in awe and did not want the experience to end. Abraham knew he was experiencing a special circumstance in his own life.
I can’t speak for you but I know sometimes in my own life I lose my wonder for God. I get so busy doing that I can miss God and become focused on the task at hand. These things can include doubt, frustrations knowing that people are talking about you behind your back, insecurities of the future, and not understanding why difficulties come when you are submitting yourself to God and his will for your life.
However, these things are the problem. Abraham ran towards God which means he was leaving his worldly problems behind in that tent. His life became focused on God. To shift our focus from our problems to God’s presence you must be as excited about God’s presence as Abraham was when he ran to the entrance of his tent. The focus can’t be on the distractions but on God’s presence. When a mindshift changes from self to God, we realize that he is all that matters.
So my encouragment to myself and you today is that we seek God’s presence. We follow Abraham’s guidance. We run to God, we bow down to worship, and we ask him not to pass us on by (As New Testament Believers we know he will never leave us).
Let us become desperate for God’s presence even in the midst of personal struggles. Let us be reminded of what King David penned in Psalms 25:4 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil;my cup overflows.” We have God’s presence with us always and we should always be reminded of that fact.
