Keep The Word

Today’s Reading 1 Chronicles 9-11

Focal Scripture: 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 “Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the Lord because he did not keep the Lord’s word. He even consulted a medium for guidance, but he did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.”

We know that Saul made many mistakes. Every leader does. However, Saul chose to not follow the word of the Lord. This has dire consequences for him, his family and the nation. Saul was wanting to be his own man and did not want to submit to the Lord’s authority.

These versus even remind us that Saul looked for wisdom from a medium. He never even consulted the Lord. This sin lead to his death and the kingdom being handed over. It is important for leaders to understand that you can sin or behave in such a way your leadership will be taken away from you. It could even lead to your death.

The takeaway for believers is to elevate our love and commitment to the word. Far too often people want to make Bible study shallow and surface level. However, you will not grow if you never go to the deep end. To often excuses get made when it comes to the word.

You will hear “that the people can’t handle depth”. You can’t teach theologically because it will turn people away. Or the people aren’t ready. The truth is the people and individuals can only go as far as they choose. Making a commitment to the word must be a priority and it will change your life.

Keep the word, read it, meditate on it. Watch what happens.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 1 Chronicles 12-14
