King of the Nations

Today’s Reading, Jeremiah 10-13

Focal Scripture: Jeremiah 10:7 “Who should not fear you, King of the nations? It is what you deserve. For among all the wise people of the nations and among all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.”

God is unique because he doesn’t just claim to be god for certain people, but all people. The Bible teaches us that God is king over Israel and every other nation in the world. He is the one who is in charge. He is the one people should look to for hope, mercy, and salvation. We see this demonstrated in the Exodus account when each plague represented an Egyptian god. The demonstration was to show that who they thought was in power was actually a pretender.

In today’s reading we see Jeremiah make a bold declaration. He states that every person should fear the Lord and acknowledge that he is king of all the nations. He goes even further and lets everyone know that nobody can compare to the Lord. Jeremiah wants Israel and others to leave their idols and worship the Lord exclusively. Why? Because Jeremiah knows the truth and that false gods lead to death.

So how do you view God? Far too often we forget that the Lord is not just God for those that believe in him but he is God over everyone and everything. The Bible tells us that one day every knee will bow down and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. So what does that mean for us right now? It means we need to declare who he is to others.

I am not sure where your belief system is right now in your life. If it is anchored in anything other than Christ it is anchored to a false god. This false god won’t be able to give you freedom or forgiveness. This false god will over promise and under deliver. Only the King of the nations can give you what your soul needs and that is salvation.

Make no doubt that Jesus is already king of the nations whether you realize it or not. One day in the future he will come and rule both heaven and earth. He will take his rightful place and demonstrate his authority for everyone to see. If you are willing you can submit to him today. He forces nobody to believe and he forces nobody to be in his presence. The king of nations also wants to be king of your heart.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Jeremiah 14-17
