Today’s Reading, Romans 11-13
Focal Scripture: Romans 12:4 “Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function,”
Knowing what your gifts are from the Lord helps you know where to serve in the local church. Thankfully, not all gifts are the same. Church life would be boring and nothing would get accomplished for the kingdom. Variety helps the church grow and it also gets everyone involved for a bigger purpose. That purpose is to grow the church and bring glory to the Lord.
In today’s reading Paul states the obvious. The body is made made up of many parts but they all belong to one body. These parts do not all have the same function. Eyes are meant for seeing not hearing. Fingers are meant for grasping not for smelling. The parts of the body function as they should so the body can operate perfectly.
So what about you? Do you know what role you play in the church? Do you know your talents? For the church to function properly each person must serve where God has gifted them. If you are a teacher, you should be teaching the people. If you are a servant, you should be serving the church and the community. If you are gifted in evangelism, train the people and then go do evangelism. Use your gifts to glorify God. If you are part of a church that prohibits people from using their gifts, it is time to find a new church.
Healthy churches want people involved. Healthy churches allow others to serve. Healthy churches don’t have one person who makes all the decisions and has everything ran by them. If that is the case the church will only go as far as that one person can lead. Which means the church is built upon a personality not the person of Christ.
Serving where you are gifted grants you a sense of peace. Peace because you are not serving outside your area of giftedness. If you are not serving at all you are violating the scriptural expectation. My advice to you is to serve and serve well. Serve the Lord and build up the church. Know your part in the body and watch God do a great work.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading Romans 14-16
