Many Crowns and An Unknown Name

Today’s Reading, Revelation 16-19

Focal Scripture: Revelation 19:12 “His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a name written that no one knows except himself.”

Having knowledge and being able to know the end of a story makes all the difference. When you know how something ends it takes the pressure off of that event and on you as a person. It doesn’t mean that difficult times will not happen. Also, it doesn’t mean that suffering is not part of that story. However, it does mean, that you can walk around with confidence that the outcome is predetermined. The only area I can think of in our lives where we know the outcome for the future is found in scripture. We know that the enemy will make war against the Lamb and he will lose. We know that those who have put their faith in Christ will be redeemed. Then those who reject the Lord will be separated from him forever, by their own choice.

In today’s reading we see Jesus revealed in his glory. He is no longer the infant who came humbly into the world. He is no longer the prophet who heals the broken and teaches biblical truth. Jesus is no longer the suffering servant who willingly gave himself up for all of humanity. In these verses Jesus is the conquering king. His eyes are ablaze and he has many crowns on his head. His name was written on his clothing and he is the only one who knows the meaning. He is riding on a white horse and is coming to judge and destroy those who are in opposition to his coming and his plan. He is just and he is worthy to accomplish this task. Victory is assured and victory has already happened.

I know that life can get overwhelming and difficult at times. I am personally experiencing that right now in my life. However, when I read biblical truth about Jesus and how it all ends, I know I can rest in him. This is why the book of revelation is a book of encouragement. No matter how bad things may appear, Jesus is victorious, which means we are also victorious. The most powerful people and nations on the planet will be wiped away at the sound of his voice. This means my problems are nothing for him to handle.

As you walk through life today focus on our king who has many crowns on his head and an unknown name. He has assured our ultimate victory, even if we lose some battles along the journey. Take heart when life is difficult and you feel like you’re drowning from the pressures of life. If you are a believer, we serve the greatest king in the history of the universe. He knows our future and the future of the cosmos. He is greater than the world and he is greater than our sin.

Focus on his divinity and majesty. Worship the one true King who takes away the sin of the world.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Revelation 20-22
