New Heart and a New Spirit

Today’s Reading, Ezekiel 9-12

Focal Scripture: Ezekiel 11:19 “I will give them integrity of heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove their heart of stone from their bodies and give them a heart of flesh,”

Knowing something new is coming always brings a sense of excitement. You know that nobody else has experienced what you are about to experience. If you have ever gotten anything new you understand what that is like in your life. Newness brings a new adventure that sets the stage for years to come.

In the verses today we see many new experiences for the children of Israel. After being told more details of their destruction and judgement God gives them hope. He tells them they will get a new spirit within them. They will receive integrity of heart. Their hearts will be changed from stone to flesh. God will drastically change who they are and how they understand a divine relationship.

God changes lives. This is what we are seeing here. The evil acts committed by the Israelites will be no more. They will stop turning their backs on God. Their hearts will be changed. They will become new people.

This same truth applies to us today. When we encounter God he changes our hearts. We go from death to life. We go from deceitfulness to integrity. The hardness of life is switched out for grace and mercy. Life change happens.

If your life hasn’t changed since you meet Jesus, I am here to tell you that you didn’t meet Jesus. You won’t be perfect but your heart should be drastically different. People should notice you have a new heart and a new spirit.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Ezekiel 13-15
