Today’s Reading Nehemiah 4-6
Focal Scripture: Nehemiah 4:1 “When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became furious. He mocked the Jews”
You never know where you will find opposition. Sometimes it will come from enemies. Sometimes it will come from those you know. Other times it will come from people who just want to see you fail. The point is, is that opposition will come when you are following God’s plan.
We see that Nehemiah is being obedient. He is building the wall. Faithfulness and duty are his characteristics. However, the next three chapters show how people will do anything to keep him from being obedient. He faces intimidation, threats, and false accusations. Nehemiah was focused on his task not the problem.
If you learn anything from reading the Bible know this. If you follow the Lord with all your heart people will be unhappy with you. They will try to get you off track and make you seem like you’re doing your own thing. Be faithful to what the Lord has called you to do.
Right now I am going through a situation that is difficult to process. I was faithful to what God called me to do and the Lord blessed. In the midst of God moving I have experienced significant spiritual abuse from an individual that I tried to deal with on my own. Unfortunately, it was so severe I had to make a difficult decision.
Even after being vulnerable and admitting what was happening I have experienced even more opposition because of the truth. I know I followed God’s leading in exposing problems. However, opposition has come when it is biblical to address those problems.
Why do I tell you this personal story? It’s because doing the right thing is never easy. Even when it comes at personal cost. Our goal is to be obedient to God and whatever happens, happens. We must know that opposition will come in the face of being obedient.
The question we must ask ourselves is this “will we stay on the right path no matter what?”
Tomorrow I plan on reading Nehemiah 7
