Our Mission

The Scripture

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matt 5:16)

What are we called to do?

First, as believers we have been given the command to tell others about Jesus. Unfortunately, it often ends for many people at that command. Secondly, disciples of Christ are called not only to tell others about Jesus but to invest in them. Therefore, our mission is not to just make converts but to see people become faithful disciples. Believers are called to be disciple makers!

The Theological Solution

However, if we are going to see believers start making disciples we have to start letting them know the abilities they have. I have become more aware over the years, that as a Pastor, my job is to equip the believers in the pew. To make sure that they know they can evangelize. Tell them they can teach others about Christ. Then show them that they can baptize those who come in repentance.

Somehow believers have come to the conclusion that the Pastor of a church is solely responsible for discipling others. Therefore, we now have church members who believe being a spectator for Christ is normal. You must tell other people about Jesus. You have the ability to disciple someone that nobody else can reach.

The Application

In conclusion how can you be on mission for God? First, you must understand as a Christ follower you are expected to disciple other people. To disciple someone simply means to do life alongside them. Share your life, share your experiences, share what God is teaching you.

Secondly, you must make it personal. When you were a new believer did someone tell you about Jesus? Did they leave you to fend for yourself? If they did, you know exactly how it feels to need guidance. Use that experience to passionately disciple other people in your life.

Finally, pray that God will show you whom to disciple. Pray that God will give you spiritual eyes to see the ones in need. Look closely and pay attention. Many believers have learned to talk the talk of Christianity. However, many do not know how to walk the walk. Come alongside them and pour your life into them.
