“Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

What does our faith say about us?

As a believer saving faith is something that is universally understood. We know that Jesus was born, lived a perfect life, died on a cross for our sins and was resurrected on the third day. The Holy Spirit has awakened that knowledge within us in a powerful way. However, I have come to the conclusion that even though believers understand a saving faith, they lack a faith that holds on to God’s provision and promises.

For instance, most believers have a hard time stepping out into the unknown in their daily lives. God gives a clear directive but instead of following we tell him how impossible the next steps are in our lives. Faith is not just something that happens at salvation. Faith is a daily occurrence that our God is bigger than any problem, situation, or fear that we may have. Faith pleases God.

The Theological Solution

The solution to our lack of faith is to read the rest of Hebrews chapter 11. This chapter clearly explains that these individuals had a faith that God would do what seemed impossible in the human realm. God intervened. He not only showed up, he showed out. God exclaimed that the only person who could get credit for the faith that was shown was him. Think about this with me for a moment. Who is the only person that deserves our complete faith? It is Jesus who not only died for our sins but has given us the Holy Spirit.

The Application

What today is holding you back from walking in faith? I have to admit that sometimes in my life my faith is lacking. What a poor testimony that is to our families and the world around us. Sometimes when God speaks nothing about the directive makes any sense. However, that does not mean we should not step out in faith.

So what is God calling you to do today that you have not done?

Is he telling you to go to another country and spread the gospel?

Is he calling you to change careers?

Do you need to be radically obedient in your finances?

Whatever it is I encourage you to walk in faith! If he has called you to it, he will provide the way. The road may be difficult, it may be bumpy but if he is with you it will all work out.
