Today’s Reading, James 1-5
Focal Scripture: James 3:17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.”
Some people think they are wise. Some people think they are not wise but are actually full of wisdom. It has been my experience that the people who have good hearts and care for people are some of the wisest people around. They have experienced life and genuinely want to impart knowledge on others. Often not by choice but by just living their daily life. They have humble spirits and give out nuggets of truth daily.
In today’s reading we see what wisdom from above looks like. It is pure, and that means it is not defiled by the world. Then wisdom is full of peace. Not divisive. It is gentle and full of mercy and doesn’t expect anything in return. This wisdom in the Bible is different from heavenly wisdom. It is only a wisdom that God can impart.
I challenge you today to determine what type of wisdom you have in your life. Do you have wisdom that comforts people and shows them mercy? Or are you the type of person that gives wisdom to people but your heart and motives do not line up biblically. I have witnessed this in my life. A person who thought they were wise and gave consults but had a heart full of venom. Thought less of others and belittled them all while giving them wisdom.
The challenge for us today is to make sure we give wisdom from above, not earthly wisdom. Our wisdom can truly cause damage because it is full of pretense. Our goal as believers should be to give such wisdom that God is glorified in every word that is spoken.
To get wisdom from above you must know God intimately. We must submit our lives to him. When we do this we point people to Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith. Push yourselves to know God and his wisdom from above.
It will change your life and the lives of those around you!
Tomorrow, I plan on reading 1 Peter 1-5
