Remembering What The Lord Has Done Is Important

Today’s Reading Leviticus 26-27

Focal Scripture: Leviticus 26:13 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would not longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.”

As the close of this book is here God is giving some great insights to Moses and the Israelites. God is reminding them that if they keep his covenant and expectations they will experience great blessings. If they don’t keep these expectations discipline will come and it will not be pleasant.

God then reminds them who he is and what he delivered them from so they could be free. God does this because people often focus what is happening at the moment instead of focusing on where they came from. At times that can be a good thing depending on the circumstance. Unfortunately, in our walks with God when we forget where we came from we focus on ourselves and not on God who delivered us from our bondage.

This means for us that we must always remember our gospel story. If you are a believer you should remember how God changed your life even if you don’t remember the specific day, date, or time. At some point we went from death to life, we went from hell to heaven, and we went from lost to saved. Even though we should never get over that amazing change, we often do not refer back to it enough.

This is why we must always remember what the Lord has done in our lives. I am not telling you to embrace your sinful lifestyle or make it the priority of your story. What I am asking you to do is to make Jesus the center of what changed your life. Jesus is the central figure. When we give God the glory in our stories we acknowledge that it had nothing to do with us at all and everything to do with his grace and love.

Today if you have forgotten where you have come from spend some time in prayer and meditation. Reflect on how God changed your life and how you can share his work with others. This is the first step to understanding biblical evangelism.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Numbers 1-2
