Rest From Your Enemies

Today’s Reading Joshua 19-21

Focal Scripture: Joshua 21:44 “The Lord gave them rest on every side according to all he had sworn to their ancestors. None of their enemies were able to stand against them, for the Lord handed over all their enemies to them.”

Being in the wilderness for forty years and then fighting enemies to take what is yours had to be exhausting. This new generation saw their loved ones die in the wilderness. They saw God’s amazing work. They were taken care of in supernatural ways.

They not only had to by physically exhausted but mentally exhausted as well. The grind is good in one sense but the continual grind can also wear you out. Finally, the Israelites were able to rest. Not because of what they did but because the Lord gave it to them.

As we grind through our daily lives we to can become embattled in many different ways. We can get exhausted from work. We can get exhausted from people. We can even be exhausted with trying to keep up with plans and expectations.

What we must learn as believers is to find rest in Christ. We all have struggles. These struggles can wreak havoc on our mind, soul and body. Rest can often be difficult to come by because we think doing is better than trusting.

I challenge you today to trust God and allow him to give you rest. Allow him to give you reprieve from your enemies. He knows your need and wants to help you be successful.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Joshua 22-24
