Serve and Follow

Today’s Reading, John 11-12

Focal Scripture: John 12:26 “If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.”

Knowing your place makes all the difference. This is not meant to be understood in a way that makes you feel inferior. It is meant as understanding your role. Knowing what is expected of you and how that expectation leads to peace. We have all experienced avenues of life where we knew what was expected of us and other areas where we were walking blind.

In today’s verse Jesus is clear about what he expects from us as believers. We are to serve him and to follow him. We are to do what he asks and listen to his teachings. This type of attitude will not go unnoticed. God the father will honor those who have this lifestyle towards Christ. These clear expectations are profound.

I am not sure where you are today but let me tell you that Jesus wants you to serve and follow him. If you are doing anything else you are missing the best he has for you. His expectations will guide you and demonstrate to you that obedience to him is worth everything you may experience.

However, to do this we must die to ourselves. We must be willing to give up our wants and desires to follow the greater good. When this happens it is my experience that God gives you more than you could ever want. He will give you the desires of your heart. He will bless you beyond measure. The hard part is giving up your own will to serve and follow yourself.

If we will learn to serve and follow Christ we will learn much. Our minds and hearts will change. Our desires will follow. Jesus is in the life changing business. All he wants from us is to serve and follow.

Tomorrow I plan on reading John13-15
