Show Compassion To One Another, Show Faithful Love & Make Fair Decisions

Today’s Reading, Zechariah 1-7

Focal Scripture: Zechariah 7:9 “The Lord of Armies says this: ‘Make fair decisions. Show faithful love and compassion to one another.”

How would you be characterized by others? I hope people will say good about you, even your enemies. That is the interesting truth about character, because if you have good character even your enemies will praise you. However, if you have poor character it will cause damage to other people in very significant ways. I have witnessed both sides of this truth in startling ways in my life. I have seen people who are praised by everyone because of their love, decision making and compassion. Being around these people has impacted me greatly.

In today’s focal verse Zechariah explains the type of person that makes a lasting impression. He has been receiving visions of what is to come and speaking with an Angel that asks him very probing questions. However, in the midst of these visions the Lord talks about character. He wants to make it obvious that poor character is a problem that must be addressed.

We all know of people who come to mind when we speak of poor character. I have one person that crosses my mind every time this topic comes up in scripture. They are the complete opposite of this verse and if they did show these traits it was only to gain an advantage from others. Their character is known by many and it is damaging to the faithful and the lost.

However, this is not the expectation for believers from God. I urge you to examine your heart and life and learn how to treat others with faithful love. Especially those you disagree with over topics. Give compassion to those who don’t deserve it because we were given compassion when we didn’t deserve it from the Lord. Then make faithful decisions that honor God and others.

You are being watched and it really does matter. People don’t want to just hear about your faith they want to see your faith in action. If you have these traits your faith will be easy to spot.

Have godly character and be a difference maker.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Zechariah 8-14
