Suffering Is Painful in Many Ways

Today’s Reading, Job 5-7

Focal Scripture: Job 7:11 “Therefore I will not restrain my mouth. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.”

Job is a man in pain. He is struggling emotionally. He is struggling mentally. He is also struggling physically. He has experienced so much in a short time that it can become overwhelming. Even though he has not cursed God he still has many questions. He even hates his life and the day he was born. Job is at his breaking point.

However, Job is honest in his suffering. He does not try to hide his suffering or put on a front for others to see. He speaks what his heart and mind are experiencing. He speaks about how his spirit is in anguish. His soul is bitter because of what he has been through. Job teaches us an important lesson. You can be in pain and suffer and still honor God.

If we are honest nobody enjoys going through difficult circumstances. It can often be overwhelming and cause problems mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. You begin to question and doubt. You wonder where you have gone wrong and why you are the one that is suffering. Especially, when people around you who commit sin seem to be getting away with everything.

Even in the midst of our pain we should know that honesty is always the best policy. Being honest with those we are close to and with God. The pain is temporary. It hurts and is uncomfortable but it is temporary. If more believers could learn to be honest in their suffering it would tell a great story. By showing faith in the Lord when everything is falling apart but also being transparent that it is difficult shows maturity.

So if you are suffering today trust God. Trust God and be honest in how you feel. Honesty is needed when life gets difficult. It reminds us that we need God to get through this life.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Job 8-10
