The Evidence that Jesus is the Christ

Today’s Reading, Luke 6-7

Focal Scripture: Luke 7:22 “He replied to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,”

I like having evidence when I am discussing topics. Evidence means you have proof to back up your claims. It means you have either found factual information or personally witnessed this information. Evidence matters because it is not opinion. It is verifiable and can be confirmed by others. Evidence makes opinions fall to the wayside.

In today’s reading John the Baptist wants evidence and an answer from Jesus. John desires to know if Jesus is the Messiah or should they expect someone else to fill that role. When John’s disciples ask Jesus that question he responds with all the miracles and wondrous works of God he has done and will do in his life. Why does this matter? Because Jesus works proves he is the Messiah but so does the evidence from other people. These miracles were not done in secret but in public.

Think about what this means when it comes to Jesus claim of being the Messiah. All someone had to do was state that they were never healed by him or had their life changed. The testimony and works of Christ could have been destroyed by just one person who wasn’t healed. His words of wisdom could have been defeated if he was outsmarted or stumped by a theological question.

However, this never happened. Instead Jesus gave so much evidence of his deity that the people were in awe. Jesus healed physically and spiritually. Jesus forgave sin and commanded people to go and sin no more. Nobody spoke with power and authority like this on the Earth. Everyone from believers to skeptics were aware they were in the presence of something different.

So the question that comes to us is this: Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ? I don’t mean a good man or a special teacher. I mean do you believe he does the works that prove his deity. Do you see the evidence that makes him more than just a man? If you believe that Jesus is just a good man and not the Christ you miss his mission.

Our hearts need to be in tune with our Savior. Our hearts need to be filled with awe over the Savior of the world. The evidence is apparent and the evidence is overwhelming. So what do you believe? Are you convinced he is who he claims to be? The proof is in how we talk about Jesus to others. It is evident in how we pray to him and worship him.

Is there enough evidence to prove that you believe in Jesus?

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Luke 8-9
