The Foundation of His Throne

Today’s Reading, Psalms 86-89

Focal Scripture: Psalms 89:14 “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you.”

Foundations matter in building and in life. If you build something on a poor foundation it will eventually come to ruin because it’s not made to handle a heavy load. We see in the New Testament that the foolish build on the sand. The sand is bad because it can wash away. It can by easily manipulated and shift under pressure. We are also told that the wise build on the rock. The rock is stable. It is difficult to change and it can handle very heavy loads. Foundations matter.

In today’s reading we see that the foundation of God’s throne are righteousness and justice. This tells us that the core of who God is comes down to these two characteristics. God is righteous which means he has perfect character and law. Justice means God is fair and delivers his judgement to everyone equally. Then we see that faithful love and truth go before his throne. Gods character is founded on his law and his actions but it goes forth from his love and his truth.

As believers what we need to take away from todays reading is that God is perfect. He knows exactly what he is doing and he is the only one who has the qualities and attributes to rule and judge the world and individuals. At times it may seem difficult to understand God’s ways and why he allows certain situations to happen. In that moment we need to trust him and his sovereignty.

Then other times we need to be aware that we may be facing situations because of our own doing. We are reaping the fruits of our decisions and actions. Since God is righteous and just he will deal with his own to bring them to correction. Far too often we ask God why is this happening to me, instead of asking “”God have I made a decision or choice that is bringing your righteous judgement on me right now?”

God is true and faithful. God is love and justice. He deals with others rightly. He deals with believers fairly. Instead of looking away if you are going through difficulties ask yourself where your foundation is located. Is it in Christ and his word? Or is it in yourself and your skills.

This is a topic we must learn more about as believers. God has a standard and it applies to the believer and the unbeliever. The only difference is that Jesus has paid the debt for those who believe in him with all that they have. Let us humbly come to the Lord on his throne and have him examine our hearts, minds, and souls.

After all, he is the only one capable of doing it fairly and rightly. Let us come to his throne seeking truth, grace, love, and justice.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 90-95
